John J. Donnelly,Jr

Founder

Founding and managing partner of Donnelly and Associates, P.C.,  Mr. Donnelly is one of the leading experts on Bad Faith and Extra Contractual Litigation in Pennsylvania. Prior to founding Donnelly & Associates, P.C., Mr. Donnelly was retained legal counsel for the CNA Insurance Companies in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1989 to 1996. Mr. Donnelly’s defense litigation includes the trial to verdict of over 100 jury and non-jury trials.  Furthermore, Mr. Donnelly has litigated hundreds of arbitrations, including underinsured and uninsured motorist hearings. Additionally, Mr. Donnelly has successfully argued before the Superior Court on a number of issues. Of particular significance, Mr. Donnelly obtained a favorable opinion in Fleming v. CNA Insurance, 597 A.2d 1026 (Pa.Super 1991) where the Superior Court granted a landmark victory to the insurance industry by holding that “good cause” was no longer necessary for an independent medical examination in a first party benefit claim.

Mr. Donnelly lectures and writes frequently on issues affecting the insurance industry. In December of 2000 Mr. Donnelly was a featured lecturer at The Pennsylvania Bar Institutes Annual Auto Law Update. Mr. Donnelly spoke on the Limited Tort Option and its development.  Over the past 5 years, Mr. Donnelly has hosted and spoken at numerous Seminars including:

Mr. Donnelly co-authored the article “Liability for the Fear of Disease and Enhanced Risk of Disease in Toxic Exposure Cases” which was published by the Pennsylvania Defense Institute in June of 1989. Mr. Donnelly has defended Toxic Tort and Chemical Exposure claims (including mass asbestos claims). In addition, Mr. Donnelly has drafted environmental coverage opinions on ISO and non-ISO insurance forms. He has also represented “potential” generators at various Superfund sites in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. 

Mr. Donnelly is a member of the Philadelphia County, Delaware County, Montgomery County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. Prior to law school, Mr. Donnelly was a Group Life and Health underwriter for the Prudential Insurance Companies.

Jack Donnelly attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. In 1983 he graduated with honors in Economics from the Temple University School of Business. In 1988, Mr. Donnelly received his Juris Doctor from the Temple University School of Law. While at Temple Law School, Mr. Donnelly received a grant to study at the University of Ireland School of Law in Cork, Ireland during the summer of 1986.

Did You Know...?

Mr. Donnelly was awarded first place in the 2010 Stone Harbor Triathlon Clydesdale Division.

Mr. Donnelly is a triathlete and competes in multiple races throughout the year.

Mr. Donnelly placed 5th in the Solitare Stetser Memorial Swim, which was a 7 mile swim from Atlantic City to Margate, New Jersey.

Mr. Donnelly has completed over 50 triathlons including the Oxford Triathlon which was a 2.4 mile swim, 20 mile run and 50 mile bike.

During law school Mr. Donnelly was a coach for the Springfield Township High School girls swim team and the St. Genevieve Grade School boys baseball team.

Mr. Donnelly ran a Christmas tree business to pay for his college tuition.

Mr. Donnelly worked as a trashman for Springfield Township in high school and college.

Mr. Donnelly coached Boys basketball (ages 9-10) in Springfield Township.
